Find your voice / voice clinic
> Tuesday 31 January, 7.30pm
This group is suitable for anyone who wants to know more about how to use their voice effectively, whether for speaking or singing. Basic vocal principles for an open natural, authentic voice. We will explore range, quality, power and the blocks to opening up the voice. Suits all levels. Bring your own questions.
After 30 years teaching, my vocal technique comes down to “Open your mouth and let your soul pour out” ... but there are many things we can do to help this, in terms of breathing, posture, diaphragm control, vocal and listening exercises, relaxation, attitude and physical health and strength.
Balkan Close Harmonies for Women
> Tuesday 7 February, 7.30pm
I have enjoyed singing Balkan harmonies since I discovered them with Frankie Armstrong in the 1970s. Balkan vocal technique is, to me, very similar to natural open voice work, and helped many of us women in the 70s to open up the power in our voices. The harmonies are close and very scrummie. I have a large repertoire of songs from Bulgaria, Rumania, Macedonia, Serbia, Greece and maybe going as far as Armenia.
Creative Vocal Improvisation
> Tuesday 28 February, 7.30pm
Improvisation, with a solid foundation in rhythm and harmony – with or without words – is, quite simply, loads of fun. We can create incredibly complex and beautiful music. To improvise, we have to be totally in the moment, out of our heads.
This is not a 'find your voice' group but for those who wish to be musically creative. I have developed a series of structures that lead us – with and without words – to create our own music and sing out our stories.
A group for those who like to make up their own parts.....it envolves deep listening , group co- operation, and the ability to be spontaneous.
